Bloody Bruising
"Oh you are bruising right in front of my eyes!" This is what the GP said to me a few weeks ago when they shot in my new contraceptive implant into my arm. "Oh yes, I do that," nodding along as the local anaesthetic wasn't even taking the edge of the pinch of the insertion device and the slice of the scalpel. The GP stood amazed as how the bleeding was flowing and said that I was "quite bleedy." Not a technical term but turns out my blood is very thin so easily travels. Also alcohol thins the blood FYI I don't drink as it hurts my tummy but probably a good thing as my blood is thinner than normal.

Bruised Banana
Ever since I was a baby I have bruised like a delicate peach, the colours spreading out like bruises on a banana. Like the petals on a rose if you touch them. A breeze, a stroke and even the hand dryers in cafes and restaurants have caused my skin to bruise. When I was little I do recall haemophila mentioned a few times. But nothing came of it. I was at the age that potentially clotting factors could have been used and we know how that went.
"It is not normal"
I never bothered the bruises much until an operation a decade ago. The day before I had to have blood taken for operation protocols so that I didn't have MRSA etc. The bruising from the blood extraction extended over my whole arm. The aneathatist who would look after me so well (from Syria FYI so we had quite a deep chat) urged me to get this looked at. "It is NOT NORMAL'" he told me as I went under. Turns out a few things happened in that operation that were also not normal but I survived and I live to tell the tale.
hEDS is known for its bruising. I've been brushing since I was a baby. Again the signs were literally and vividly pink, purple, green and yellow all there. I have to be soooo careful about bruising because if something so simple as the cat walking across my thighs can leave them bruised then WTAF? Please order that bubble wrap suit to go!
